Candy Candy novels

When Kyoko Mizuki finished publishing the 9 manga volumes, she wrote a secuel in which some details of Candy's life are showed, after the end of the manga story. In these novels it is said very few about the final outcome. However, it is known Candy stays in Pony's Home, next to Sister Mary and Miss Pony, while Albert works in the Andrew's business, Archie and Annie continue with their relationship, in spite of Neil and Elisa, who are trying to make the other's lives miserable. And Patty becomes a school teacher.

In one of those volumes, George (the secretary and trust man of Albert) becomes more protagonist. But the most important in these novels are the letters in the last volume, which also left us without knowing what will happen with Candy, and rise the fans expects.

Letter nº 1. After one or two years. Susanna writes to Candy.

Dear Candy,

I am sorry you had to leave New York the way you did. Now I know where Terry's heart is. All I can do is hope someday he loves me. I can't walk at all, but knowing that he is by my side makes me happy. Now I realize that he is my life and soul and all I can do is be by his side and wait for him forever if I have to.

Susanna.

Letter nº 2. Candy tries to answer Susanna.

Dear Susanna,

You should know that I hated you when you turned me away from the hotel in Chicago. I thought I loved Terry more, but when I went to New York and found out you saved his life, and then tried to kill yourself for Terry and me, I realized that you loved him from the bottom of your heart and I knew what I had to do. All I have is the letter you sent me and I read it over and over. When Terry left the group, I realized that you and him were having trouble and not me. I am fine. Terry is now in my past and I don't look back. I am very happy that I met Terry and you. Someday we will see each other again, perhaps when we are very old and we will laugh a lot. I know you will take care of him. Always be by his side. Sometimes I see you in the magazines smiling, although in a wheel chair. Now I know that I made the right decision.

Candy.

Letter nº 3. Not satisfied, Candy writes a letter to Terry.

Dear Terry,

I am happy to see that you are a great actor in Broadway. I wish you and Susanna the best of happiness. You are a part of my past now and I am very glad I met you and Susanna. Take care of her.

Candy.

After she has finished, Candy's will weakens and finally she doesn't send any of the letters. However she wirte another to Albert.

Letter nº 4. Albert writes to Candy from some place in the world, where he is on a business trip.

Dear Candy:

My journeys are very well, when I finish with my business, I want to travel with Puppé as before. Would you like to come with me? I'd like you accompany me, I hope you accept.

See you soon .

Albert.

Letter nº 5. Letter from Candy to Albert

Dear William Albert Ardlay,

I read your letter over and over. It is not easy for every one to carry on their own life. Now I realize it. And I'm so glad that I feel you are much closer to me. I'm also happy to know about George and Anthony's mother. It is very beautiful to get to know people in my life. Many years have passed since I met you at Pony's hill. Since we met at first, there have been many sad "good-byes". But I believed that tomorrow will come. The badge is ringing at my chest. When you go and travel, please take me with you anywhere! If you say No, I'm going with you! Oh, Albert...It is wonderful to live! Wow! I can't sleep tonight! I'm so excited to think what happens tomorrow! When the door is knocked, then you might be there, Albert! I'm so grateful to my parents. Because if they didn't leave me at Pony's Home, I would not have met Albert. Oh, Sister Pony says don't stay up late. She always treats me as a baby. Well, I'm going to have a wonderful dream tonight. Good Night, Albert.

With love,

Candice White Ardlay

Kyoko Mizuki wrote them in May '78, urged by the publishing y the fans who asked her desesperately for a definitve end. But as you can see Kyoko Mizuki left us an ambiguos end again, in wich we can not know what will happen to Candy or who is she going with. However, this is the only way everyone can have his/her own happy end.

In these novels we can see some facts were not shown in the manga, for example some secondary characters become more protagonist, like George, another example is the a more mature Albert appears, it didn't happen in the manga, because it was dedicated to a youger public.

No images were added to the novels, that's why Yumiko Igarashi didn't take part. The fronts had drawing from the art books. Besides they were published only in Japan and in limited edition, so it's very dificult to get them.

Nowadays it's very possible that they see the light again, because Fukkan made an offer to Kyoko in order to publish them again.

As Kyoko didn't write an definitive end, you can imagine one an write ir to share it with all of us. The facts continue since Candy goes in a trip with Albert, the rest you write it...
